Series Preview: Phillies open up a 4-game set with Atlanta following a miraculous win on Wednesday night

The Philadelphia Phillies open up a 4-game set with the division-rival Atlanta Braves tonight at 7:15 EST on FOX.
Ranger Suarez (9-5, 3.53 ERA) gets the ball for Philly, going up against Max Fried ((13-6, 2.52 ERA).
The Fightins are coming off a miraculous win on Wednesday night, as a 5-hit night from Matt Vierling finished pushed the Phillies to a 4-3 walk-off win in the 10th. It wasn’t pretty throughout the whole game, as the Phils fell behind 3-0 in the Top of the 8th thanks to a Vlad Guerrero Jr. tank shot.
The team got back on the board immediately after, tying the game up in the bottom half of the 8th thanks to a JT Realmuto HR, a Dalton Guthrie RBI single, and a Kyle Schwarber game-tying rope single.
David Robertson would pitch a clean 9th inning, and although the Phils had Harper/JT/Bohm up, they ultimately would go down 1-2-3. Andrew Bellatti would pitch a great 10th, leaving it up to the Phils in the 10th with a runner on 2nd. Bryson Stott laid down a beautiful sac bunt, followed by a Jean Segura HBP. Dalton Guthrie loaded the bases with a walk, and Matt Vierling stepped to the plate…
Last night’s win pushed the Phillies to 81-67 on the season, 14 games above .500. They currently hold a 2.5 game lead on the Brewers (3.5 with tiebreaker), as Milwaukee opens up a new 4-game series with the Cincinnati Reds tonight.
The Phillies are facing off against a tough Braves opponent who they’ve struggled with this season, most recently getting swept just over the weekend down in Atlanta. The team now has momentum, and they’ll try to help themselves while spoiling the chances of Atlanta making a comeback for the NL East.

Ranger Suarez vs. Max Fried
LHP Ranger Suarez takes the hill for the Phillies tonight, making his 2nd straight start against Atlanta. His last one was back on Friday, where he went six innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run. Suarez is 3-4 at home this season with a 4.70 ERA. He’s 9-5 total on the year with a 3.35 ERA.
Spencer Strider was supposed to start tonight’s game for the Braves but will miss his start with left oblique soreness. Max Fried will pitch instead, who is 13-6 on the year with a 2.52 ERA. He has, however, surrendered a 3.50 ERA against Philly this year.
