Phil Maton broke his hand punching a locker after giving a hit up to his brother

Astros Pitcher and Phil “Worse Than Nick” Maton let his anger get the better of him last Wednesday after an outing against the Phillies. While we don’t know exactly what caused him to blast a locker with his fist, it definitely might have to do with the fact that he gave up to his brother, Nick “The Next Chase Utley” Maton in the season finale.
Maton was photographed in cast and his season is over, per Jose de Jesus Ortiz:
It definitely has to be tough to be the sibling who is both less talented AND less attractive. Even so, you don’t see Seth Curry punching lockers over it.
What makes this even wilder is that it was the last game before the playoffs. Phil threw away a shot of being part of a World Series-caliber roster over his younger (and hotter) brother getting a hit off of him in a totally meaningless regular reason game.
That tells me a lot about the relationship between these two. I have a feeling Nick often one-upped Phil while growing up despite the age difference.
It’s either that or the 29-year-old has serious anger issues.
Just think about it. If he kept his cool he’d likely have contributed to winning a World Series. Sure, Nick could joke about it during the holidays, but rings matter.
Now, if the Astros win a World Series, Phil will suffer from Carson Wentz syndrome his entire life. I don’t wish that on him, but based on todays Divisional Series results, it looks like Maton the Younger could have two things to hang over his brother’s head – a hit and playoff plate appearances.
Well, three if you include his dashing good looks.
