NFC East: Commanders place QB Carson Wentz on IR; will be sidelined for Philly homecoming

After fracturing his right ring finger during last week’s contest against Chicago, Washington QB Carson Wentz has officially been placed on injured reserve, per multiple sources.
Now that Commander Carson is shelved on the IR, he’ll be forced to miss at least the next four games for his team. Which means Wentz won’t suit up against his two former teams, the Indianapolis Colts on October 30 and our Philadelphia Eagles on November 13.
Carson Wentz officially placed on IR
Head coach and avid lover of Carson Wentz, Ron Rivera, stated that backup Taylor Heinicke will start in place of No. 11 for the time being. Rookie Sam Howell will serve as Heinicke’s backup.
The former Eagle has gotten off to a shaky start in 2022, to say the least. Through six games, Wentz has tallied 10 touchdowns to six interceptions while completing about 62 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 84.1 — his lowest rating since the abysmal 2020 campaign.
Per Pro Football Focus’ grading system, the former second overall selection has earned a 63.1 offensive mark this season, good for 26th in the NFL. His 61.3 passing grade ranks 28th out of 36 qualifying signal callers.
Despite Rivera’s overwhelming support for his quarterback, Wentz has led Washington to just two wins thus far. One over Jacksonville in Week 1, with the second coming in the Week 6 matchup with Chicago.

Wentz to miss his Philly homecoming in Week 10
To the dismay of Eagles fans everywhere, this injury and his placement on IR will hold Wentz out for the Week 10 Monday night showdown in Philadelphia. Seeing Wentz get clobbered by the Eagles defensive line in Week 3 was great, but unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the home crowd will have an opportunity to see that in person.
While it is a bit disappointing that Wentz will be sidelined for his return to Philly, at least the Eagles managed to kick his ass once already. Doing it in front of the Lincoln Financial Field crowd would have just been a nice cherry on top.
