The Carter Hart Game: Flyers hang on to beat Panthers 4-3

I mean, wow. The Flyers really pulled this game out?
Carter Hart just showed everyone what a franchise goalie can do for a team. The Flyers were massively outshot throughout the game and Hart stood tall (on his head) all night.
1st Period
The Panthers got off to a 1-0 start off a goal from Forsling. Hart would definitely like to have the first two goals he allowed back but again, you have to look past that after the performance he just handed in.
Tony DeAngelo answered with his 2nd goal of the season off a beautiful feed from Travis Konecny. Farabee started the play at the Panthers blue line with a subtle pass. Konecny disgusting pass after speaks for itself.
Mahura answered so quick that I didn’t even have time to plop down in my chair after getting home from school. Gave me flashbacks to last year when you didn’t have ANY time to celebrate a goal because the opposing team was already in our zone peppering Hart.
The Flyers then went on the power play with about 4 minutes left in the period. Scott Laughton replaced James van Riemsdyk (broken finger) on the man-advantage and scored the first PP goal of his career.
- Scott Laughton has been really fun to watch this year. There’s a reason he’s the only Flyer with a letter on his chest right now.
- Carter Hart was ridiculous this entire game but 16/18 in the 1st period is insane.
2nd Period
Another period of the Panthers outshooting and spending a lot of time in the Flyers zone. Despite this, like most of the season, the Flyers capitalized on their chances.
Sedlak won an offensive draw, Deslaurier’s nudged the puck back to the point where Nick Seeler was waiting to blast it. Seeler let one rip and MacEwen got his stick on it for a very clutch goal to put the Flyers up 3-2.
Morgan Frost and Wade Allison saw maybe two shifts total the entire 2nd period. Look like Torts is sending a message to two new players now.
Not even a minute after MacEwen scored, Joel Farabee joined the fun…potting his 2nd of the year. Hayes botched a breakaway attempt but after he spun and fed a loose puck that went to the corner to Farabee in front of the net.
Joel finished it
I have zero idea what Bob was doing during this play. He was literally inside the net during the replays I watched.
3rd Period
The Panthers scored 36 seconds into the 3rd period and continued their shot dominance over the Flyers (20-5). Hart ended the game with 48 saves on 51 shots, a new career high for the 24 year old.
Tony DeAngelo also returned for the 3rd after leaving the 2nd with about five minutes left looking like he was in some discomfort.
Frost eventually got another shift after sitting for most of the 2nd. It was a 4 on 4 with Tortorella obviously looking at Frost to provide some type of offensive spark. Instead of that, Frost took a slashing penalty on a cutting FLA defenseman.
I’ve actually thought Frost has played well the first 6 games of the season. Had 2G-1A through 6 and should’ve had more but tonight was his first BAD game of the season. He also got some time during a Flyers PP, but struggled to do anything worth noting.
I expect Torts to do the same thing he did when he sat Konecny and Hayes not even a game ago…turn the page.
- Hart career high 48 saves, 48 of 51. Absolutely ridiculous…he’s 5-0-0
- Owen Tippett looked fantastic in his return from injury. 1A tonight
- Zamula didn’t see much time in the 3rd. Wasn’t his best night either
