Dave Dombrowski interrupts Justin Verlander’s press conference during World Series Media Day

Game 1 of the World Series kicks off tonight at 8:03 EST, as the Philadelphia Phillies are just four wins away from hoisting the World Series trophy.
Both teams took part in media day on Thursday, where players get hundreds of pictures taken, along with multiple interviews with the national and local media. Justin Verlander was getting interviewed, and Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski decided to have a little fun with his old friend.

“Where’d you get your career started, Justin? Oh, and he wears the same cologne that he used to.”
Dave Dombrowski got Justin Verlander’s career started back in June of 2004 when he selected Verlander in the 1st round of the 2004 Amateur Draft out of Old Dominion. Verlander would spend 13 years with Detroit, forming into one of the game’s most dominant arms. Dombrowski took over the Tigers in 2002, assumed the GM role in ’03, and worked with Verlander all the way until the 2015 season, the year Dave made his way over to the Boston Red Sox.
Justin Verlander will take the hill for the Astros in Game 1, coming off a dominant regular season, holding a 1.75 ERA in 28 starts. Although Justin has been great in 2022 for the Stros, there is still a light at the end of the tunnel, as Verlander is 0-6 with a 5.68 ERA in 7 career World Series starts.

The Phillies will send Aaron Nola to the hole to face off against Verlander, who took the ball in Houston in Game 1 of the last regular season series, throwing 6.2 perfect innings, guiding the Phillies to a 3-0 victory and clinching a spot in the postseason for the first time in 11 years.Â
The last time Justin Verlander faced the Phillies was the day after the Fightins clinched their trip to the playoffs. Did Verlander dominate us? Yes. Does it matter, considering everyone was extremely hungover? Not at all.
