Star-less Sixers continue homestand with matchup vs. Knicks

There is no other way to say it, the Sixers find themselves in quite the rough patch to start off the 2022-23 campaign. They currently sit at a record of 4-5 after suffering a double-digit loss at the hands of the Washington Wizards. Luckily for them, the NBA season is full of quick turnarounds. Tyrese Maxey and company are back in action on Friday night, this time taking on Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks. Coverage is set to tip off at 7 p.m.
Unfortunately for the Sixers, their injury report is littered with some of their top players. James Harden is the most notable, as reports recently came out that he is going to miss the next month due to a foot injury. Joel Embiid (illness) and Matisse Thybulle (ankle) are both listed as questionable. Looking at the Knicks, they will be at full strength heading into the matchup.

The Sixers are in desperate need for someone to step up
Ten games into the season, and the Sixers are already dealing with the injury bug. With Embiid in and out of the lineup and Harden sidelined for the coming weeks, the team needs someone to step up in a big way.
The obvious name that comes to mind is Tyrese Maxey. After bursting on the scene last year, the 22-year-old has come out the gates averaging 24.2 PPG, 3.4 RPG, and 3.4 APG. He will likely assume the point guard duties with Harden out, along with being called upon to be a focal point in the scoring department.
Overall, the Sixers are going to have to rely on their depth to get through this rough patch. Daryl Morey did a great job this offseason bolstering the supporting cast, and it will be on them to help fill the void left by Harden. This roster has the talent to stay competitive during a time like this, question is if they are willing to step up and answer the call.
