Phillies magical postseason ends in World Series Game 6 loss to Astros

The Phillies watched the Astros celebrate their 2nd World Series Championship in team history after falling to Houston 4-1 in Game 6 of the World Series.
Astros Beat Phillies; Astros Win World Series 4-2
- Winning Pitcher:Â Framber Valdez (3-0, 1.44)
- Losing Pitcher: Zack Wheeler (1-3, 2.78)
- Save: Ryan Pressly (6, 0.00)
The Phillies just lost the World Series in 6 games to the Houston Astros.
Those are words I didn’t think I would be saying in late September as the team limped into the final playoff spot in the National League. But here were are more than a month later, now nursing a wound ten times the size of whatever we would have been afflicted with had the Cardinals simply finished the Phils off in two games in the wild card round.
So what are we to make of a team that vastly overachieved its expectations and simultaneously managed to prove just about every critic and doubter (many of them within the Phillies fanbase) wrong?
Growing up people always spoke so highly about the 1993 NL pennant winning team. As a whole, the team was a bunch of gritty, do whatever it takes type of guys that perfectly mirrored the spirit of the city they played in. From the reverence they received you would have thought that Joe Carter hadn’t actually hit that home run off Mitch in Game 6. They were more popular than the 1980 team that actually held the hardware over their head.
So what my point?
My point is that we all witnessed the Phillies in the span of one month go from the same sad, sorry, overpaid and underachieving bunch to a team that seriously threatened the 106 win Houston Astros in the World Series. If you had any knowledge of Phillies baseball before October then what just happened what nothing short of a miracle.Â
This team used every ounce of talent and energy they had and gave the city of Philadelphia exciting playoff baseball for the first time in over a decade.
So instead of spending the next ten days until the Eagles play arguing about whether Rob Thompson is an idiot for taking out Zack Wheeler for Jose Alvarado, or if the Houston Astros are in fact cheaters (they are) take a moment to remember how much excitement and hope the 2022 Phillies gave us.
The comeback in St Louis, The Rhys Hoskins bat spike, the Bryce home run in San Diego, the 5 home run Game 3 of the World Series….
Are we losers tonight? Yes, but we sure as hell had a fucking great time doing it.Â
More importantly we have hope. This Phillies team is going to be even better next season and no longer needs to face questions of whether they have what it takes to get to the playoffs.
The 2022 Phillies are National League Champions.
