The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of a four-day break before welcoming the Milwaukee Bucks to the Wells Fargo Center on Friday night.
Joel Embiid is coming off an incredible week of basketball, in which he averaged 40 points and 11 rebounds over a four game span. His return to form was on full display Sunday night in South Philly, when he dropped a career-high 59 points to go along with 11 rebounds, eight assists, and seven blocks.

Embiid got off to a slow start to the 2022-23 season but honestly, he typically does that every year. Then, he missed a chunk of games after catching the flu before finally turning things up a notch last week. Yes, Embiid starting the season averaging 27 points per game is considered a “slow start”. Now, the national media eyeballs are coming back to Philadelphia, with Embiid finally cracking the Top 10 in the MVP race.
According to the MVP Rankings by Bleacher Report, Embiid is now tied for 10th with Kevin Durant.
“Embiid is averaging 40.0 points, 5.3 assists, 2.8 blocks and 16.5 free-throw attempts since rejoining the Philadelphia 76ers rotation four games ago. He hasn’t played enough to be placed any higher, but his case will continue to strengthen while James Harden is sidelined.“
Trust me. I know the whole conversation around MVP in the NBA is completely washed, even more so when Embiid should have been the clear-cut winner AT LEAST once over the past few seasons.
There’s not much happening right now in the Philly sports world so content is content and all things considered, Joel Embiid is trending in the right direction.
We’ll take it.
