Week 11 Power Rankings: How far did the Eagles fall following their first loss of the season?

The Eagles suffered their first defeat of the year on Monday night at the hands of Taylor Heinicke and the Washington Commanders.
Philadelphia now holds the same record (8-1) as the Vikings but remain atop the NFC due to beating Minnesota in Week 2. How far down the national Power Rankings did this loss push the Eagles? Let’s take a look.

The Eagles have finally fallen … but they remain atop the league in the latest edition of the NFL Power Rankings.
Yes, the decision has been made to keep the humbled Eagles at No. 1 despite the unsightly nature of an island-game loss to the Commanders. This is less about keeping the order and more about the lack of a new No. 1 we feel comfortable with. We’re not ready to crown the Chiefs, and — Game of the Year fireworks aside — rolling out the red carpet for the Vikings feels overly histrionic for our tastes.
What we do know is that the gap has closed dramatically in the NFL’s upper class. Gone are the halcyon days of the Big Three; as Thanksgiving approaches, the league is as wide open as ever.
So grasp onto your scepter tightly, Eagles. The pounding at the door grows louder.

Who was on the hot seat in preseason: QB Jalen Hurts
Temperature of seat right now: Cold
With Hurts eligible for a contract extension after the season and the Eagles holding two first-round picks in April’s quarterback-rich draft, this was widely viewed as a prove-it year for Hurts — and he definitely has so far. He is squarely in the MVP discussion thanks in large part to his passing improvements. Entering Monday’s game against the Commanders, Hurts’ completion rate sat at 68.2% — sixth best in the NFL and up nearly seven points from last year’s mark (61.3%).

If they don’t fix the run defense, they will have more losses the rest of the way. You can’t play defense that way and win in the playoffs.

Well, the 1972 Dolphins can pop the Champagne. The NFL’s last unbeaten team is perfect no more.
Actually, that’s exactly why the Eagles are no longer undefeated. They were miles away from perfect—which was doubly surprising given that Philly was off last week.
Philadelphia was sloppy with the football, turning it over four times. A team that had seemingly moved the ball at will managed just 264 yards. One of the league’s best ground games failed to break 100 yards. Star wide receiver A.J. Brown was shut down, managing just one reception for seven yards.
It was a shaky performance all around. The offense was inconsistent. The defense couldn’t get off the field. Make no mistake. This was no fluke. The Eagles just got beat. On both sides of the ball.
Still, Davenport didn’t read too much into it.
“It’s a little unsettling to see a team play so flatly coming off a bye,” he said. “But if the Eagles went into Monday night a little complacent, they didn’t come out that way. Philadelphia wasn’t going to run the table, and sometimes getting your butt kicked can help a team refocus. If the Eagles look like this again against the Colts, then you can worry. But they are still deserving of the top spot in these rankings since they beat the brakes off the league’s only other one-loss team.”

The Eagles had just three turnovers entering Week 10, four fewer than any other team in the NFL. They were bound for regression and got it all at once on Monday Night Football. Philadelphia matched its season total in turnovers with three against the Commanders, including a Dallas Goedert fumble on a play during which he was clearly grabbed by the face mask.
Officials did not throw a flag—and the face mask was not reviewable. Monday also marked the first time the Eagles trailed in the second half at any point this season. I’m not dropping the Eagles from this spot after their first loss, but they can’t afford many more of these messy games if they want to hold on to the top spot in the NFC standings.

If Linval Joseph has any juice left, he’ll be a nice rotational piece for the Eagles.
