Phillies schedule meetings with 4 major shortstops ahead of next week’s Winter Meetings

The Phillies have scheduled meetings with the four major shortstops on the current Free Agent market ahead of next week’s Winter Meetings, according to Jayson Stark of The Athletic.
Phillies Set to Meet with 4 Big Shortstops
The top headline of this offseason for the Fightins is obviously the shortstop position, and the Phils are looking to lock up one of these four players for the future…Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa, and Dansby Swanson.
Stark says that the Phillies intend to meet with all four players ahead of next week’s winter meetings, which could possibly be a sign that the team wants to sign one before those meetings take place.

Trea Turner has been stealing the headlines now for a few weeks, and rightfully so, but the Phils still have three really great options other than him. Dave Dombrowski has already been linked to Xander Bogaerts due to his past connection with him in Boston.

“FanGraphs’ Roster Resource site estimates the Phillies’ current luxury-tax payroll obligations for next season to be a shade below $190.7 million, meaning they’re about $42 million below the $233 million threshold for 2023. If they exceed the threshold again, they would be taxed at 30 percent on all the dollars they spend above $233 million.“
