Kyle Gibson lands a 1-year deal in the American League

Kyle Gibson and the Baltimore Orioles have agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the 2023 season, according to multiple MLB Insiders.

Gibson made 31 starts in 2022, tallying a 5.05 ERA in 167.2 total innings. He allowed 167 hits and 94 earned runs while striking out 144 batters, holding opposing hitters to a .268 BAA.

Gibson was acquired at the trade deadline in 2021 in the trade that sent Spencer Howard down to Texas in exchange for Kyle Gibson, Ian Kennedy, and Hans Crouse. Gibson isn’t the flashiest arm, but the 35-year-old can still provide a team some valuable innings. He logged a career low of 2.30 in five August starts in 2022.
The Phillies have now lost Zach Eflin and Kyle Gibson in a matter of three days, setting up for them to make a splash in the starting pitching market sooner rather than later. With the massive Jacob deGrom acquisition by the Texas Rangers, the market for pitchers is beginning to be set.
