Argentina World Cup Buenos Aires

WATCH: Incredible footage from Buenos Aires following Argentina winning the 2023 FIFA World Cup

After 36 years, the World Cup is returning to Argentina.

Lionel Messi led Argentina to 2023 World Cup glory after a 3-3 tie through extra time sent the match to penalty kicks. Argentina won 4-2 in penalty kicks to take home the World Cup.

Watching Messi and Mbappe duel it out until the end was incredible. Messi scored twice in the match, including a goal in the 108th minute that all things considered, looked to be the deciding score for Argentina. Mbappe then scored on a penalty kick for France in the 118th minute to complete a hat trick and to send the match to PK’s.

Ending the World Cup in penalty kicks still doesn’t sit right with me. The game would be better off if it went golden goal format but whatever, that was probably the best soccer game I’ve ever watched.

Following Argentina’s World Cup victory, Buenos Aires went absolutely bonkers celebrating the country’s first World Cup victory in nearly four decades.
