Joel Embiid still can’t crack the Top 5 in the NBA’s Kia Race to MVP Ladder

The Kia Race to the MVP Ladder remains completely stacked as we close out the 2022 calendar year, yet Joel Embiid is mysteriously towards the bottom.
Well, it’s not actually mysterious at all. Before we get into it, I just want to make sure that we’re all on the same page in regards to the MVP voting here in the city of Philadelphia. For whatever reason, Joel Embiid will never get the love and respect he deserves in the national media. Advanced analytics simply won’t let that happen and it continues to be true through the first chunk of the 2022-23 NBA season.
Embiid could literally average 60 points per game, and a triple-double with the Sixers dominating the Eastern Conference standings while playing All-NBA defense and still, the national media would overlook him. That’s just the way the wind blows.
Whatever. The NBA Deep State is real. If you’ve been reading The Liberty Line, you know that already.
Embiid has yet to crack the Top 5 in the NBA’s official MVP ladder. This week, he’s slated just outside at No. 6 after being tied for 7th place last week.
Embiid dropped 48 points on 17-of-32 shooting from the floor with nine rebounds, three steals, and three blocks on Tuesday night against the Wizards. He is still leading the NBA in scoring at 33.7 points per game.
Luka Doncic is right on his heels averaging 33.6 points per game after dropping a 60-point triple double on Tuesday against the New York Knicks.
Updated Kia Race to MVP Ladder
- Nikola Jokic
- Jayson Tatum
- Luka Doncic
- Kevin Durant
- Giannis Antetokounmpo
- Joel Embiid
- Zion Williamson
- Ja Morant
- Jaylen Brown
- Donovan Mitchell

The Sixers are 20-13 on the year and 4.5 games behind the East-leading Boston Celtics. They are in fifth place in a crowded Eastern Conference standings.
Tonight, they will face the New Orleans Pelicans before closing out the 2022 calendar year in Oklahoma City on New Year’s Eve against the Thunder. Joel Embiid could score 82 and there’d hardly be a peep.
