Phillies DFA Top 15 Prospect to make room for Craig Kimbrel on the 40-man roster

The Phillies have DFA’d RHP Francisco Morales, the 11th-ranked prospect in the Phillies organization, to make room for newly-acquired Craig Kimbrel on the 40-man roster.
Phillies DFA Francisco Morales
Francisco Morales threw just three games in 2022 for the Phils and struggled immensely, tallying a 7.20 ERA in just five innings with four earned runs allowed in that time.

Morales, 23, tallied a 0.00 ERA in 9 appearances in the Arizona Fall League and a 1.48 ERA in 23 games in Double-A. The team must believe Morales will clear waivers because although the outcome hasn’t been great, Morales is a young pitcher with a lot of promise if they can tune up his stuff.
Kimbrel’s 1-year, $10M deal is now official, and sources around the league believe that Kimbrel will not be the set closer for the Fightins. Craig will fill in a late-inning role and will be used in multiple different situations. Rob Thomson never committed to a true closer in 2022, and it seems like he won’t do that in this upcoming season, either.
