Phillies acquire Gregory Soto from the Detroit Tigers in a 5-player trade

According to reports, the Philadelphia Phillies are closing in on a massive trade that will send Nick Maton, Matt Vierling, and Donny Sands to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Gregory Soto and Kody Clemens.
Report: Phillies acquire Gregory Soto in trade with Detroit Tigers
Gregory Soto, 27, is a 2x All-Star and coming off the best season of his 4-year career in Detroit. He logged a 3.28 ERA in 64 games out of the bullpen for the Tigers, allowing just 22 earned runs in 60.1 innings, while striking out 60 batters.
Soto is a four-pitch pitcher relying heavily on a nasty sinker which he throws at a 45.6% rate. From there, he throws a fastball (31.9%) to go along with a slider and changeup.
As for Kody Clemens, son of Roger Clemens, made his major league debut in 2022 and slashed just .145/.197/.308 over 127 plate appearances. The 26-year old is certainly a utility player that will be considered as a replacement piece with the Phillies losing both Matt Vierling and Nick Maton.
You have to love this move. I know it’s tough getting rid of the boys. I was a HUGE fan of both Nick Maton and Matt Vierling but the Phillies needed more bullpen help and adding Soto is an incredible move. Maton was going to have trouble playing anywhere in the infield with the Phillies acquiring Trea Turner in free agency and being all-in on Bryson Stott at second base.
As for Vierling, you would have to think another move could be coming to get some depth in the outfield.
UNLESS THERE’S A SCOTT KINGERY TOUR IN THE MIX?
Just sit back and let John Middleton and Dave Dombrowski cook.
