Rhys Hoskins cracks MLB Network’s List of the Top 10 First Basemen

History will not be kind to those who doubted Rhys Hoskins.
MLB Network released a ranking of the Top 10 first basemen in Major League Baseball, and Phillies 1B Rhys Hoskins came in at #10 on that list.

Rhys Hoskins slashed .246/.332/.462 in 2022, crushing 30 HRs, 79 RBIs, 145 hits, 33 doubles, and an OPS+ of 122. Phillies fans know how hot and cold Hoskins is as a player, but when he’s on, there are not many bats in the league that I’d take over the Phillies first baseman.
Hoskins and the Phillies just recently avoided arbitration, agreeing on a 1-year, $12M contract for the 2023 season. Over the last six seasons, Hoskins ranks 12th in fWAR among qualified MLB first basemen (11.5), 10th in wRC+ (125), and seventh in home runs (148) in only 667 games. To put that in perspective, all six first basemen above Hoskins in the rankings have played at least 726 games.Â
Nobody defends Rhys Hoskins more than the Phillies crew here at The Liberty Line, and that will continue. Hoskins is a perfect fit for this Phillies offense, and although his glove isn’t the best, please name me five first basemen that are known for their glove…exactly, you can’t.
26 days until Pitchers and Catchers, but who’s counting?
Enjoy the Rhys Hoskins bat spike for what is probably your 1,000th time watching it. This was 100% the coolest thing I have ever witnessed in person.
