Key Names
Andrew Painter
The Phillies’ top prospect, and the 5th ranked prospect in all of baseball, will finally get to show off his skills in Major League spring training. Painter was named Minor League Pitcher of the Year at the conclusion of the 2022 season after logging a 1.48 ERA across Low-A, High-A, and Double-A. Painter tallied a 0.98 ERA in 8 starts with Jersey Shore.
Scott Kingery
After two promising but mediocre seasons to begin his career, Kingery entered the 2020 pandemic season after a rough battled with COVID-19, expected to compete for everyday at-bats spread across numerous open positions around the diamond.
Instead he slashed just .159/.228/.283, good for an OPS+ of 37 over 36 games before the Phillies were forced to designate him for assignment. Since then, Kingery has logged just 19 plate appearances across 16 games in the majors, including just one during the Phillies magical 2022 run to the World Series.
With the departure of Matt Vierling and Nick Maton, the team could use another utility man that can play all over the field. Rob Thomson spoke highly of Kingery just a few days ago. There would be no better storyline than a #JetpaxSZN redemption tour in 2023 for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Griff McGarry and Mick Abel
It’s easy to forget that the Phillies have two other elite pitching prospects in the minors due to all of the (justified) Andrew Painter hype. Griff McGarry and Mick Abel, the #4 and #2 prospects in the organization, will now get to show their skills in the Major Leagues in hopes of getting a roster spot for the 2023 season.
