Report: Eagles hire former Temple defensive coordinator as linebackers coach

The Eagles have found their next linebackers coach, and thankfully, it isn’t Matt Patricia.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Philadelphia has hired Temple defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot to replace their former LB coach, Nick Rallis.

Eliot won’t have to commute far for his new gig as he joins a staff led by new defensive coordinator Sean Desai, who also served as a defensive coach at Temple from 2006-2010. Before his stint at the Temple, Eliot held assistant coaching positions at Kansas, Florida State, Miami, Colorado, and Kentucky, and now he gets his first crack in the NFL.
As a result, it appears the Eagles won’t be hiring Matt Patricia despite their rumored interest. Patricia allegedly wasn’t a big fan of Eagles CB Darius Slay during their time in Detroit, and the potential reunion had drama written all over it. A sigh of relief for all involved.
