Kyle Schwarber Team USA 6-2 WBC

Kyle Schwarber, Nolan Arenado lead Team USA to a 6-2 victory over Great Britain in Game 1 of the 2023 World Baseball Classic

Team USA played their first game in the 2023 World Baseball Classic last night against Great Britain, winning 6-2.

Great Britain struck first with Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson hitting a home run off Team USA starter Adam Wainwright in the first inning.

On paper, this game shouldn’t have even been close, however Great Britain starter Vance Worley held the Team USA scoreless for the first two frames before America finally got on the board thanks to Nolan Arenado driving in Paul Goldschmidt from first base with a double.

From there, Kyle Schwarber gave Team USA a commanding lead in the fourth inning with a three-run “Schwarbomb” to put the United States up 5-1.

Nail in the coffin for Great Britain, and while Schwarber’s home run was certainly a big one, Arenado led the team with three hits and two RBIs on a pair of doubles.

Top eight hitters in the Team USA lineup all reached base at least once, with the team notching 14 at-bats with runners in scoring position.

Side Note: Who the hell designed Great Britian’s uniforms? They might be the worst in the history of sports.

Team USA will face Mexico in a sold-out battle in Arizona tonight at 10PM. Mexico is a team that needs a win after losing to Columbia in 10 innings in their opening game yesterday. Padres right-hander Nick Martinez will get the start.

As for Great Britain, they will face Canada this afternoon. Canada will be playing their first game of the 2023 World Baseball Classic.

  1. I really liked your article!! I also liked the picture you added of Kyle Schwarber!! He is my favorite Phillies player. I sent him a baseball card to sign, but he didn’t sign it.
