Zach Ertz jinxed Jon Rahm before round 1 of Masters win

Jon Rahm took home his first Green Jacket on Easter Sunday after a 30-hole marathon caused by heavy rain the previous two days. However improbably the victory already was, at the start of the week, the Spanish juggernaut was worried he’d been cursed after four-putting one his first hole of the tournament. The reason?
Former Eagle Zach Ertz jinxed Jon Rahm by saying the green on Hole 1 would be “a walk in the park”:
Good god. There were really only two ways that could’ve played out. Rahm could have read that text, birdied the first hole, and used the combined effect to imbue himself with even more confidence in his game.
Instead, the far more likely option played out, and Rahm four-putted and immediately began shitting bricks. I can’t blame him for it either. If one of my boys texted me saying I was going to go low and I go on to double the first hole, I’m muting his number and burying my phone in my golf bag.
Don’t buy it? JJ Watt brought the receipts:
My man played incredible golf, battled the elements and a golfing cyborg by the name of Brooks Koepka, and took home his first Green Jacket. Of course, this isn’t an underdog story – he’s already one of the best in the sport – but it serves to further prove his status as an elite talent.
This whole interview shows Jon Rahm really is the man. He’s an absolute machine, quick with a smile and a joke, and can ward off the ban juju summoned by the jinx of another elite athlete. How can anyone compete with this guy?
Just look at this specimen. This is only the beginning for Jon Rahm by the way, and he’s already well on his way to having a monster 2023.

As for Ertz, he remains unapologetic. While it didn’t lead to a walk in the park, his text directly preceded a major championship win for John Rahm. Doesn’t seem like there’s much to apologize for, and I think Jon would agree.
