NFL Draft: Chris Simms throws major shade at consensus No. 1 EDGE prospect

With the NFL Draft just about two weeks away, the last thing any of us want to do is talk about Jalen Hurts denier Chris Simms. Sadly, he said something so ridiculous that we simply can’t not talk about it. He’s the gift that keeps on giving.
On Monday, he dropped his top-five EDGE prospects entering this year’s NFL Draft.
Simms’ top-five pass rushers entering this year’s NFL Draft:
As you can see, the consensus top EDGE prospect on nearly everyone’s board, Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr., is all the way down at five in Simms’ ranking. At a glance, this just looks like a classic pre-draft hot take. We get a lot of those this time of year. But his explanation on his “Unbuttoned” podcast was, honestly, a little disrespectful towards Anderson.
“There’s no way [Anderson] goes before [Tyree Wilson, Lukas Van Ness, Nolan Smith, or Will McDonald], there’s no way,” Simms says. “This is one where I go, this is obvious. Nobody is going to be able to watch [Anderson’s] film and go it’s as good as the four guys we talked about, there’s no way. Those other guys have multiple things they do elite. [Anderson] has a lot that he does good, nothing is elite.”

Pretty out there take from Mr. Simms here, who’s been known to say stupid shit from time to time. Which is why it’s hard to take him seriously here.
I’m not going to act like I’ve watched as much film as Simms or that I’ve done my homework to determine Anderson is in fact the top pass rusher in this year’s class. I just don’t buy a take that zags this hard against the general consensus. Especially coming from a guy who once said Jalen Hurts wasn’t a top-40 quarterback in the NFL.
In the end, there’s a reason guys like Chris Simms are in the media and not in NFL war rooms on NFL Draft night. It’s important to remember that whenever you hear a pundit utter such a head scratching take.
