Budda Baker continues to butter up Eagles, praises Nick Sirianni in recent interview

At this point, Budda Baker has made it abundantly clear that he wants to play in Philadelphia.
In addition to his praise for the new $255M man Jalen Hurts, Baker appeared on the Up & Adams Show prior to Super Bowl LVII and spoke about what he admires about Eagles HC Nick Sirianni:
“Something that I really like is that Eagles coach, [Nick Sirianni]. He is who he is.”

Baker, 27, formally requested a trade from the Cardinals on April 14 amid his desire for a new contract. Baker is owed $13.1M this season and $14.2M in 2024 from a four-year, $59M extension he signed in 2020. Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Philadelphia is viewed by NFL sources as a potential destination:
“People I’ve talked to around the league are at least looking to Philadelphia because they have a need at safety with C.J. Gardner-Johnson leaving in free agency. But my understanding is they don’t have a lot of money to spend because they signed other players, so it could be tough.”
The Eagles did an exceptional job retaining key pieces of their No. 1 ranked pass defense from a season ago, most notably signing CBs Darius Slay and James Bradberry to new deals. One free agent they couldn’t hang onto, however, was S CJ Gardner-Johnson, who (not without theatrics) signed a one-year deal with the Lions following a productive year in Philadelphia.
GM Howie Roseman has since brought in veterans Terrell Edmunds and Justin Evans to help fill the void, but both are likely stop-gap options at best. Bringing in the two-time All-Pro would solidify Philly’s secondary and propel them back to the Super Bowl.
Baker has been nothing short of spectacular in his first six seasons with Arizona:
- 650 total tackles (four seasons with 100+)
- 34 passes defended
- 7 INTs
- 6 forced fumbles
- 5 fumble recoveries (1 TD)
- 7.5 sacks
Baker is the only safety in the NFL to be named to the Pro Bowl in each of the last four seasons.
