Phillies Nike City Connect Jerseys

Debate: Phillies will eventually have to get rid of one uniform to make room for a Nike City Connect jersey; Which one gets trashed?

The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the 16 teams in Major League Baseball that do not have a Nike City Connect alternate uniform.

When they do finally get a City Connect uniform, they’ll have to sacrifice one of their current jerseys to make room for it.

Nike is imposing a “4+1” rule that will require ball clubs to only have four uniform options, plus their City Connect uniform.

That will be a problem for the Phillies, who already have Red Pinstripes, Cream, Gray, Powder Blue and Red uniforms.

Phillies (5) Current Uniforms

From SportsLogos.net

“Nike is now doing all the jerseys — and one thing I’ll point out about Nike is that they have come to all the clubs and said, ‘We really want to sort of streamline uniforms.’ So there’s a model out there that they want to stick to called ‘four plus one.’” said DeWitt III, as transcribed by the St Louis Post Dispatch

“You have four jerseys that you can wear — home, road and two alternates — plus your City Connect when you unveil that.”

Kyle Pagan proposed the question over at Crossing Broad, asking what uniform would you be willing to get rid of to make room for Nike City Connect and my answer to that would easily be the gray road uniforms.

I know the majority of people would go with red but honestly, I couldn’t disagree more. The road uniforms could use a little upgrade to make them not look like they were leftovers from Spring Training, but overall the more red, the better. Plus, those are worn at the direct request of Bryce Harper so I will not argue with him on that one at all.

The Phillies should move forward with the following uniforms

  • Red Pinstripes
  • Cream/Parchment
  • Powder Blue
  • All Red Road Jerseys
  • Nike City Connect – ALL ROYAL JERSEYS

Listen, I obviously know that the road gray jerseys have been a staple of the Philadelphia Phillies for decades but I really don’t care. The majority of Phillies history is riddled with disappointment and bad baseball so the fact that people are holding on to gray road jerseys like they bring some type of joy to the organization is silly.

I’m definitely proposing an ALL ROYAL uniform with hints of red and white mixed in.

Either that, who you bring back the all maroon uniforms, but we already did that so why not try something new?

One thing you DEFINITELY DON’T DO is make it the colors of the Philadelphia flag. No one wants the yellow and baby blue combination.

The Eagles tried that one year and they looked like idiots on the field.

Stay away from the city flag and lean into the American flag with all royal uniforms that feature Phillies red and white too.

  1. Lose the grey top. Wear the powder blues on Sunday at home and more often on the road.

  2. The gray unis can go.. As long as they are winning, I honestly don’t care what they are wearing

  3. Grays or cream can be replaced They should definitely wear the red more. Hopefully the city connects are good. Some teams have good ones, while some (the Dodgers) are lame.

  4. Get rid of the grey. They’re boring and dated. I like the powder blues and red for away. Wear the powder blues on Sundays home. City connect jerseys royal blue with either Philly or the Liberty Bell on front of jersey.
