Noah Cates may be changing his number to 27 instead of his previous 49. This update was made known on Noah Cates’s Instagram with the following post:

It was a much-needed change with seemingly every young player wearing a number in the 40s for some odd reason. Add in the fact that the Flyers will be getting new sweaters for next season and it feels like the perfect time for an organizational rebrand across the board.
The last Flyer to wear #27 was Justin Bailey in 2019.
If this rumor is accurate, and it should be, I hope the other young players also follow suit and change. I think they’ve earned it by now.
Cates had 38 points in his first full season and is blossoming into a fine two-way forward for Philadelphia. He was one of the only players to play the full 82 games and led the team in plus-minus while doing it. John Tortorella trusts him more than most players on the team.
I’m excited to see #27 progress even more in the future as the RFA will most certainly be retained.
