Overconfident Lakers fan risks it all to go viral with a 10-point buzzer beater, fails miserably and goes viral anyways

The Los Angeles Lakers clinched a 4-2 series win over the Memphis Grizzlies last night, winning 125-85 in Game 6.
D’Angelo Russell scored a career playoff high 31 points to lead the Lakers, while Anthony Davis had 16 points and 14 rebounds. LeBron James scored 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting and just like that, the Memphis Grizzles are booking Sunday tee times in Cancun.
I’ve wrote about the Lakers-Grizzlies series throughout on The Liberty Line and let me tell you, I have never been so happy to see a team lose in the playoffs than I was watching LeBron James destroy Dillon Brooks and Ja Morant. Trust me, I’m not even a LeBron James fan and it was still the greatest thing ever because of how insufferable the Memphis Grizzlies have become this year.
The Legend of Cooper: Lakers Fan Risks it All to Go Viral
Last night, while the game was a 40-point blowout and honestly, pretty boring to watch, we did get some excitement during one of the breaks, with a Lakers fan named Cooper taking the court.
During one of the breaks during the game, a Lakers fan named Cooper took the court with a chance to win a prize by scoring 10 points in 30 seconds. Cooper had some options on how he could win the contest. A shot from under the hoop counted as 1 point, the free-throw line was 3 points, and the three-point line was 10 points.
As long as you used the 30 seconds, this was a pretty easy win for anyone.
So with Cooper with the easiest task ever, basically having the grand prize in his bag already, told the announcer he was “BORN READY”.
Instead of getting to work when the timer started, Cooper decided to put the ball down and hype up the crowd for the first 28 seconds before picking up the ball and attempting a three pointer for the win.
Lakers Fan Cooper: BORN READY
Cooper. Oh buddy, that’s just downright embarrassing.
When I first saw this clip making its rounds on social media last night, I thought this kid was going to drain the clock and swish home a 10-pointer while the entire crowd went bonkers.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case at all.
He missed the shot and stood there awkwardly, looking for some support from literally anyone but got nothing. Even the Lakers dance team snubbed up on a handshake or two. Just a tough scene for our guy Cooper, who left with zero love and a measly “Lakers Fan Pack” instead of winning the grand prize.
I will say, Cooper is a showman and the fact that he clearly had it planned out to let the clock run down to just 2 seconds before shooting a buzzer beater is pretty badass. It just didn’t work out for him so of course, he’s going to get heat now across social media.
The confidence in Cooper was incredible. He had a chance to go mega-viral and he took it and will now suffer the consequences of going viral for all of the wrong reasons.
You have to respect that.
On the other hand, I wonder what the grand prize would have been?
Again, scoring 10 points in 30 seconds shouldn’t have been that hard of a task and if I was Cooper’s parents and he went up there and pulled this off, no matter how cool it would have been, I would be somewhat pissed at my kid for tossing away free money.
Either way, shoutout Cooper and credit to the Lakers for putting the Memphis Grizzles out of their misery.
