Fan carted out after falling into bullpen during Red Sox, Phillies game

A spectator fell over a protective railing and into the bullpen in the top of the first inning of the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox game at Citizens Bank Park.

The fan fell over the fence out in Ashburn Alley which separates the concourse and the lowered bullpen area while attempting to get a baseball that a player had thrown. 

Masataka Yoshida was at the plate against Zack Wheeler when José Alvarado ran from the bullpen into the outfield to alert Nick Castellanos.

Medical workers ran out to the second level of the bullpen as Red Sox relievers looked on nearby.

The game resumed after about a 10-minute delay.

Luckily, the fan was alert and responding to medical personnel while being carted out of the bullpen. He was transported to the trauma center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. 

Phillies said the fan who sustained injuries after falling into bullpen in the first inning was transported to Jefferson Hospital for treatment and was conscious and responsive upon leaving the ballpark.
