Bad Business: Store attempts to ‘cancel’ Jarred Vanderbilt after he returned $2,000 worth of clothes after wearing them to game against the Lakers and Warriors

A clothing store is attempting to “cancel” Lakers player Jarred Vanderbilt for returning $2,000 worth of clothing after wearing it to the Lakers playoff game against the Warriors.
Jarred Vanderbilt Returns Clothes, Store Embarrasses Themselves on Social Media
Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt has been called out on social media for buying $2k worth of clothes and wearing them prior to his team’s first game against the Golden State Warriors in the second-round of the NBA playoffs, only to return them the next day.
The 24-year-old, who joined L.A. from the Minnesota Timberwolves at the February trade deadline, wore a plain tank top with an opened white and blue short-sleeve button-down, completing his fit with striped slim-fit pants and all white sneakers.
On May 5, four days after his purchase, he was slammed on Instagram for sporting the attire just once in the Lakers’ 117-112 win at Chase Center, which took place three days earlier, on May 2.
‘Nice guy,’ shared the suspected Saks employee, who seems to be based in the San Francisco area. ‘Bought 2k worth of clothes Monday. This outfit specially. Wore it to tunnel and post game Tuesday then returned it yesterday. I wasn’t at the store and someone took the return. Look knows why…
‘Obviously used clothing. Mayn if I didn’t have a reason to hate the Lakers and root for home turn now I have more reason. Boooooo @JVANDO YA BUM.’ via DailyMail
Honestly, people who want to clown Jarred Vanderbilt are in the wrong here. I couldn’t believe that was the direction the narrative is going when this was posted online.
The fact that this store decided to start out the message saying “Nice guy but…” then continue to make a poor attempt at roasting and “cancelling” Vanderbilt for returning the clothes is just crazy.
Side Note: If anyone starts out a post with “Nice guy but…” it’s going to be followed by anything but nice things about the person in question.
As for the store, this is might be one of the most boneheaded business decisions I have ever seen.
Why would they ever post something like that online?
You’re basically ensuring that no one will ever come to your shop again because in the event they need to return something, they are going to blast you online for doing it.
Plus, the store isn’t sure why Vanderbilt would return the clothes? Really?
I think it’s pretty obvious the reason why.
He bought clothes, wore them to the Lakers game, and then returned them because he no longer wanted them.
That’s literally why stores have a Return Policy.
If you don’t want customers to return clothes then you better spend more time creating a new Return Policy instead of heading to social media to bitch and complain when someone actually returns something.
Also, maybe offer a service like Black Tux if NBA players are going to be shopping at your store where they can rent clothes, jewelry, and whatever else they want to ensure they have a great outfit.
You could also use the fact that Vanderbilt was wearing clothes from your store and put that behind some social media ads and posts so even more NBA players will do the same.
Instead of actually using their brains, they went a different route and now look like complete idiots. Go figure.
Regardless, it doesn’t really look like the store was really concerned about the return in the first place. They obviously hate the Lakers and are Golden State Warriors fans judging by the last part of the post about “home turf”.
I would counter and say that they shouldn’t have even let Jarred Vanderbilt buy clothes in the first place. Just like when the Houston Astros came to Philadelphia and stores refused to cater their team dinners.
Now that’s a protest and a great viral moment where you won’t completely embarrass yourself and your business.
This store needs to take some notes.
