WATCH: Bryce Harper goes after Rockies pitcher Jake Bird for trash talking Phillies dugout, benches clear

The Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies cleared the benches on Sunday after Rockies reliever Jake Bird pissed off Bryce Harper with some over-the-top antics. Bird retired the Phillies in the top of the seventh inning and started chirping at the Phillies’ dugout, clapping his glove in their direction.
Bryce Harper did not like that:
Harper stormed onto the field in a (justified) attempt to murder Jake Bird.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Bryce so fired up, or really anybody on the team for that matter. Baseball doesn’t require guys to be bloodthirsty psychopaths, but it does call for it occasionally, and Harper can call on that energy at will.
The Rockies and their fans have been chirping him pretty hard all series, which is fair game. But there comes a point where the people talking trash need to be prepared for a response.
Honestly, fuck Jake Bird. You could tell the whole Phillies dugout was a douchebag, and as the leader of the team, Bryce answered the call to action.
Also, shout out Kyle Schwarber for being the first line of defense. He may not have been first over the rail to fight the guy, but he played his role perfectly.

Of course, the umpires went on the make the entire situation about themselves. Did Bryce deserve to get tossed? Sure, maybe.
But even so, he’s out there protecting his teammates. I get the umps had to do what they had to do, but leaning over into the Phillies dugout and talking at coaches that just want you to shut the hell up does not fall under that umbrella.
Bird needs to stop chirping and grow up. What he did yesterday in front of the Phillies dugout was childish. He should know better. I love how you put that Bryce Harper stormed onto the field.
