Chickies and Petes AC Expressway

Chickies & Petes is back with an all-time pointless marketing promotion, paying tolls on the AC Expressway for just one hour

Chickies & Petes is back yet again this Memorial Day Weekend paying tolls for everyone heading down the shore today at Egg Harbor Plaza.

Just like last year, Egg Harbor Plaza tolls will be completely free, courtesy of Chickie’s and Petes from 5-6PM today.

Listen, while this is obviously a good marketing move, just like I said last year, I refuse to acknowledge this as some kind of great thing from Chickies & Petes. I just can’t bring myself to approve of an hour timeframe in the heart of rush hour traffic on Memorial Day Weekend is some type of great promotion.

Again, we’re talking about a one hour window to avoid a small toll at Egg Harbor Plaza during rush hour traffic. Anyone with half a brain realizes that nothing too short of a cheap marketing scheme.

Trying to get down the shore on any holiday weekend is absolute mayhem. At minimum, you’re looking at a 3-4 hour drive which is double, if not triple the time it normally takes.

Can’t have other websites in the Philly area celebrating this as some type of an amazing promotion. I refuse to take part in that type of propaganda and to be clear, I’m a big fan of Chickies & Petes, but this instance simply doesn’t move the needle for me.

Long rides to the beach. Bar lines in every shore point just to be packed inside some overcrowded bar like a can of sardines. That’s the real story of Memorial Day Weekend. The entire experience is pretty awful.

I will however, be heading down the shore this weekend to Ocean City New Jersey.

Travel Tips for the Shore

My suggestion is to avoid the AC Expressway at all costs and drive under the cover of darkness, sticking to the Commodore Barry Bridge, 55 South and back roads. At least you can hypothetically drink safely while driving under the cover of trees on a one-way road.

From there, it would hypothetically be a rush when you finally hit a passing area and you have to make a quick decision on whether or not you can pass someone while holding a cold one and smoking an annual “shore cig” before an oncoming car ends your life.

Again, all of those are hypotheticals but I wouldn’t be doing my journalistic duties if I didn’t paint a picture for you. Anyways, maybe I’m just getting old but I tend to avoid holiday weekends at the shore. Too much traffic and too many people kill the experience.

Chickies & Petes Rest Stop Non-Alcoholic Tailgate

Chickies & Petes is also partnering with the South Jersey Transportation Authority and throwing a little Plaza party in Hammonton from noon to 5PM.

Who doesn’t want to stop and eat crab fries, 7-Eleven Hershey’s Ice Cream, with a Monster Energy drink with a bunch of pissed off travelers trying to get down to a shore point?

You’re all disgusting.

Side Note: Crab fries are overrated. Argue with your beach chair.

Apparently the New Jersey State Police will be their with drug dogs too so please kids, don’t stop if you have your bong tucked away in your suitcase with an eighth of weed for a late night beach sesh.

At the end of the day, it’s a nice marketing promotion and definitely has people buzzing on social media, even if it’s completely pointless.
