NBA Players Profile: Donovan Mitchell

Mitchell is a legendary basketball player who has reached the NBA All-Stars 4 times while only being in the league for six years.
With a ratio like that, you can already tell this shooting guard is a key player on the court. But what makes Mitchell so impressive, and how does this affect his profile?
Since Joining The Cleveland Cavaliers
Since joining the team in 2022, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ odds have turned in their favor. The team has been honing their skills all year long and pursuing victory after victory.
Without a doubt, they have become one of the best squads in the Cavalier’s history, and this achievement can be easily attributed to fantastic team creation.
Coach J. B. Bickerstaff campaigned for the perfect team, and he won over owners and presidents alike. They traded three players and a chance at the three first-round picks to get their hands on Donavan Mitchel. The trade felt like a gamble, as the team was losing three good players for one legendary one.Â
In reality, the trade was a sure success! If you had searched through the NBA rumors, you would have seen this trade coming and could have made a killing on the results.
With the trade deal made, Mitchell had to prove himself, which is exactly what he did. In his debut game, Mitchell scored 31 points. The next game pushed leapfrogged over that figure, reaching 41 points.
Mitchell was a force to be reckoned with, and his style matched the defensive and offensive players alike. It was a match made in heaven.
Mitchell was doing better than ever, creating a career-high against the New York Knicks. He achieved 12 assists, scored 38 points, and ended the game with a win of 121 to 108.
In 2023, Mitchell achieved another career high, performing 13 assists and winning the New York Knicks game 107 to 90. Unfortunately, this left the two teams in a league tie, which meant another game was needed.
The Cavaliers were eliminated in the end, but they weren’t even predicted to get that far in the first place. The loss felt more like an end to an amazing season. The next season should be just as impressive.

Stats Throughout The Years
Mitchell started his NBA career in 2017. His best year (stat-wise) was in the 2020 to 2021 season while Mitchell was still on the Utah Jazz team.
During that time, he played in 10 games, scored an average of 32.3 points per game, created 5.5 assists per game, and reached 46.7 fantasy points per game.
You could argue that his best stat season was actually in the 2019 to 2020 season. Here he played in 7 games, averaged 36.3 points per game, and reached 49.3 fantasy points per game. However, his assists were only 4.9 per game. We say “only,” not because that figure is low, but because we know he can do much better now.
Mitchell’s best assisting season was in the 2022 to 2023 matches. There he reached his career high of 7.2 assists per game. However, his points per game have dropped to 23.2, and his fantasy points have dropped to 44.
This might seem counterintuitive to how amazingly both he and his team have been doing, and there is a reason for that. Because Mitchell has been assisting more, this has helped him reach advantageous scoring places. This means Mitchell isn’t a selfish player and will give the ball to the best-located player to ensure the team’s success.
Mitchel’s stats might have dipped, but his playing ability has improved!
His Last 5 Games
Mitchell’s last five games were mostly losses, which is a shame. Each game was against the New York Knicks, and the stats show how the Knicks were ready to stake their place in the Finals.
Throughout each game, Mitchell struggled to get a footing. His offensive tactics were no match to the new strategies of the Knicks, and despite producing some great baskets, they couldn’t keep up with the established players.
Mitchell scored the most points during the April 15th game, reaching 38 points. After that strong figure, the team couldn’t keep up their momentum.Â
Final Thoughts
Donovan Mitchell is a phenomenal player, and although the last couple of games haven’t shown him in the best light, the fact that the Cleveland Cavaliers even reached their current place in the league is a testament to his skill.
Donovan Mitchell is on FIRE.

Tonight he joined Russ, Harden, and Kobe as the only players over the past 25 seasons to drop 40+ PTS in 4 straight games.
