Preview: Phillies make a roster move ahead of matinee series finale vs. the Dodgers

The Phillies will wrap up a three game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers today at Citizens Bank Park.
Today’s game will be a rubber match after the Phillies beat the Dodgers in Game 1 on Friday night thanks to a walk off home run by Kyle Schwarber and the Dodgers bouncing back yesterday with a 9-0 win thanks to a bad start from Aaron Nola.
Starting Pitchers
- Taijuan Walker (5-3, 5.04 ERA)
- Caleb Ferguson (3-2, 3.68 ERA)
Taijuan Walker vs. Caleb Ferguson
The Phillies will send Taijuan Walker to the mound at 1:35PM. Walker is 3-1 with a 3.53 ERA in his last seven appearances, including pitching seven shutout innings Tuesday to beat the Detroit Tigers in Philadelphia. He allowed two hits, struck out eight and walked three.
At Citizens Bank Park, Walker is 2-0 with a 2.67 ERA in five starts and he has a 2-1 mark and 4.00 ERA in six starts in the daylight.
The Dodgers have a bullpen game today and will send lefty reliever Caleb Ferguson to the mound to start the game. Ferguson has appeared in 23 games for the Dodgers, holding a 3.68 ERA out of the pen. He’s totaled 25 Ks and a 1.41 WHIP in 22 innings.
The Dodgers have struggled over their last 10 games, going 4-6 in that span. The Phillies had their six-game winning streak snapped yesterday and a quick bounce back win today before a six game road trip is of the upmost importance.
The Phillies are 31-33 on the season, sitting in third place in the NL East standings behind the surging Miami Marlins and the East-leading Atlanta Braves.
In the Wild Card, the Phillies find themselves 2.5 games out of the final spot in the National League.
Needless to say, it’s time to start winning baseball games. While they have played better as of late, the Phillies winning streak came against the Washington Nationals and Detroit Tigers, which aren’t exactly two shining baseball organizations this season, to say the least. They will however, get some help today with the return of Alec Bohm.
Phillies Activate Alec Bohm from IL
Phillies 3B/1B Alec Bohm has been activated from the IL and will hit 5th today. Drew Ellis was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make room for Bohm on the 26-man roster.
Bohm is back at third base for the Phillies, while Kody Clemens continues to handle duties over at first base. Clemens, who had a walk off hit against the Tigers last week, continues to have success at the plate. Over his last 30 games, Clemens is batting .287 with 25 hits, four home runs, and 11 RBI in 87 at-bats.

Dodgers at Phillies: Betting Notes
- The Dodgers have scored at least four runs in five straight games.
- The Phillies have scored three or fewer runs in three out of their last four games.
- The Phillies are 8-5 when Walker pitches this season.
- Dodgers DH hitter J.D. Martinez 7 for 12 (.583) with one double and one home run.
Forget yesterday’s blowout loss. The Phillies have been playing well lately and Walker has really found his groove over his last few starts. Philadelphia being a home dog today is the way to go.
