Report: 76ers extend qualifying offer to Paul Reed, will become restricted free agent

Another domino has fallen in the Sixers’ offseason.
First reported by Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, the 76ers will extend a qualifying offer to reserve center Paul Reed.
The Philadelphia 76ers will extend a qualifying offer to center Paul Reed, league sources told @hoopshype. Reed will become a restricted free agent after appearing in a career-high 69 regular-season games for the Sixers last season.

This will allow the 76ers’ big man to become a restricted free agent and field offers from other teams. If Reed receives an offer sheet elsewhere, Philadelphia can match it and retain his services.
Reed, 24, finally earned the primary backup role behind Joel Embiid last season, appearing in 69 games. He averaged 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 59.3% from the field.
Due to an LCL sprain, Embiid missed Game 4 of the first-round series against Brooklyn. Reed stepped in wonderfully, contributing 10 points and 15 rebounds in the Sixers’ rout of the Nets. Reed also started in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against Boston, finishing with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
“BBall Paul” has become a fan favorite over the years, and considering the Sixers’ lack of center depth throughout Embiid’s career, the Sixers should be motivated to keep him.
“If they would like to keep me, then I would like to come back for sure,” Reed said last month. “I really would like to come back.”
