Mick Abel dominated the MLB Futures Game, ate grasshoppers in Seattle over the weekend

Reading Fightin Phils and Phillies prospect Mick Abel was in Seattle over the weekend, starting for the National League in the MLB Futures Game.
Abel is the No. 2 prospect behind Andrew Painter in the Phillies organization. He struck out leadoff hitter Jonatan Clase on a nasty 82 MPH curve and allowed a single and a stolen base before notching his second strikeout of the game against Baltimore’s Heston Kjerstad.

The Phillies’ 2020 first round draft pick threw 12 of 23 pitches for strikes. His fastball topped out at 96-98 MPH. Abel also helped himself to Seattle’s bizarre food choices, sampling a spiced grasshopper at T-Mobile Park.

Justin Crawford, the other representative for the Phillies in the Futures Game, went 0-2 with an RBI in the game. The Phillies No. 3 prospect started at DH and gave the National League a 2-0 lead on a sac fly. He played centerfield later in the game.
