Celebrating LeSean McCoy’s 35th Birthday: Revisiting his phenomenal Eagles career

On July 12th, we join Eagles fans in celebrating the birthday of one of the most electrifying running backs in recent memory, LeSean McCoy.
Affectionately known as “Shady,” McCoy left an indelible mark on the NFL, particularly during his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles. As we honor his remarkable career and contributions to the sport, let’s take a nostalgic journey through the unforgettable moments that defined his time in the City of Brotherly Love.
Selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft, LeSean McCoy burst onto the scene, captivating fans and leaving opponents in awe. His elusive running style, unmatched agility, and incredible field vision made him a nightmare for defenders trying to bring him down.
In many ways, he resembled Allen Iverson but a football version. It was pretty evident very early on the Eagles had themselves an exceptional player in the making.

LeSean McCoy’s brilliance peaked in the 2013 season when he etched his name into the record books. With an astonishing 1,607 rushing yards and 539 receiving yards, McCoy became the first Eagle to win the NFL rushing title since 1949. His remarkable achievements earned him a much-deserved place in the Pro Bowl and helped propel the Eagles to an NFC East division title.
The most dominant moment of Shady’s career and tenure with the Eagles was in the “Snow Bowl.” McCoy’s performance was exceptional, with 217 rushing yards, an impressive average of 7.5 yards per carry, and two touchdowns. It was undeniably his standout moment as an Eagle.
The Snow Bowl
His ground attack of 217 yards in a single game surpassed any other achievement in his career. What made it even more remarkable was the challenging South Philly blizzard in which he achieved this feat. When viewing the highlights from that game, it almost appeared as though he was playing on a dry field while his opponents struggled with the slippery snow.
Although he departed from the Eagles in 2015 amid claims of diminishing performance, that perception was merely a narrative justifying Chip Kelly’s decision. In reality, McCoy went on to earn three additional Pro Bowl selections during his successful tenure in Buffalo. So, shoutout to Chip Kelly for trading one of my favorite players of all time. I’ll never forgive him for that, and the best part is neither will Shady McCoy.
As we toast LeSean McCoy on his 35th birthday, we celebrate his incredible career with the Philadelphia Eagles. Beyond the records and accolades, McCoy will always be remembered for his unwavering commitment to the sport and the city that embraced him.
He will always be special in my heart and Philly fans alike.
