WATCH: Jake Cave put on a masterclass with leaping grab, clutch hitting in 6-4 Phillies win

Jake Cave class. I never thought I’d type those words, but the Phillies wouldn’t have beaten the Baltimore Orioles without him on the field Wednesday night. Not only did he have two hits, including an RBI double, but made an absurd catch in left field to save a run in the 6th inning and preserve a one-run lead.
Jake Cave went head-first into the Yuengling sign and still came up with the ball:
It’s not that he’s a bad ball player, but I think it’s safe to say this was an unexpected performance from Cave. That said, it was absolutely massive and won us a game against the best team in the AL.
Of course, there are always the folks that lie as badly as LeBron James saying he predicted Kobe dropping 81 points.
There was definitely some guy watching the game at the bar telling his buddy, “Dude, I’ve always been high on Jake Cave. I’m a massive Cave-Head, a total Spelunker, you know what I mean?” And his buddy was like, “Did you just say Spelunker?” and made the whole thing awkward.
Whether you saw it coming or not, you can’t deny that catch paired with two hits and an RBI is a big contribution to a win.
Sadly, I wasn’t able to find a clip of his RBI double, but I also didn’t look very hard, so you get what you give. At any rate, I’m happy for Jake Cave and it’s clear his teammates are too.
While this was an excellent catch, the jury is still out on whether it was better than Kyle Schwarber’s last week. I’m personally leaning toward Cave because he barrelled into the Yuengling sign, but Kyle’s a big boy and still got crazy elevation.
