Michael Lorenzen pitched a no-hitter in Vans and those spikes are headed to the Hall of Fame

In case you haven’t heard, Michael Lorenzen threw the 14th no-hitter in Phillies history Wednesday night. He looked good on the mound, striking out five batters, throwing 124 pitches, and wearing a sweet pair of white Vans spikes en route to a complete game. The Old Fashioned Way.
Michael Lorenzen was DEALING in the white Vans:
Honestly, I had no idea you could even do that. MLB is pretty lame most of the time, and their cleat requirements aren’t really top of mind, so I’m sure a lot of people were in the same boat.
It’s great to see the last two guys throw no-hitters in pinstripes are two chill bros. Cole Hamels is probably one of the chillest dudes around, and Lorenzen seems to exist within the circle of chill as well. Though to what degree, we’re not quite certain.
Those are the most famous spikes in America right now, and Lorenzen knows it:
“I’ve got to get a new pair for sure. I mean, those are my only pair. We need to make another pair as soon as possible. Maybe send those to the Hall of Fame. Those will be the first pair of Vans in the Hall of Fame.”
Well, guess what, Mikey. Those kicks are headed to Cooperstown, and rightfully so.
While this was Lorenzen’s first no-hitter, it wasn’t the first time he rocked Vans on the bump. He wore a classic pair of high tops when he was with Reds and it’s a sick look. But it does lack a certain je nais se quois without the dirty salad coming out the back of his cap.

He wore them while playing with the Angels as well.

I guess he’s been doing this for a while but nobody noticed because, well, he’s never exactly been a household name.
He had a solid start to the season and has been lights out in his two starts for the Phils since being acquired at the trade deadline. Lorenzen has become a critical piece in the team’s late-season push, and has already left his mark on the city with both his pitching and his sartorial creativity.
