NBA hits James Harden with $100,000 fine for calling Daryl Morey a “liar”

Well, that was quick. The NBA has officially fined James Harden $100,000 for remarks he made about Daryl Morey’s honesty, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The fine comes after a swift investigation into James Harden’s comments:
In case you forgot about the most ridiculous statement of the offseason, here’s what Harden told a crowd in China about his stance on remaining a Sixer and working with Morey.
This entire situation just continues to grow in absurdity. Harden apparently expected to be traded by now, and apparently, that meant Morey went back on his word.
What he failed to realize was that if a player is an aging, regressing superstar demanding more money than his performances are worth, nobody is going to want to give up any assets to trade for him. He also failed to realize that he is that player and has been for his entire tenure in Philadelphia.
Morey may have reneged on a deal, but conditions just would not allow him to keep any promise like that. It’s basically the same as a father promising his toddler a unicorn for Christmas and then being surprised when she cries opening presents because she remembered you said something for the first time.
Not his fault, but the aggrieved party is rightfully a bit annoyed.
But being a little annoyed doesn’t give you the right to disparage your boss in front of a bunch of Chinese factory workers schoolchildren. Especially when China a) has massive financial ties to the NBA and b) hates Daryl Morey with a passion.
Of course, the NBA Players Association is going to file a grievance on James Harden’s behalf, claiming the fine is bullshit. Which, well, it isn’t, but we all have to deal with the song and dance routine every goddamn time something happens in this league.
Well, if we’re filing grievances, I’ve got a couple of my own.
First, I’d like to file a grievance against James Harden for being more annoying off the court than he is impactful on it.
Next, I’d like to file a motion to dismiss Daryl Morey because the Sixers have 5 centers on the roster and zero plan for success.
Finally, I’d like to press criminal charges against PJ Tucker for this Instagram story. I think you get why.
