Zero Class: Penn State scores a touchdown with 6 seconds left to cover and cash the over against West Virginia

Last night, Penn State absolutely destroyed my West Virginia Mountaineers (pain) 38-17 in Happy Valley.

The Lions had possession of the football on second and goal with roughly 12 seconds left in the game, leading 31-15. The game was over. Any college football program with some class would have just taken kneel and walked away with a dominant victory in week 1.

Unfortunately, this happened in Happy Valley. 100,000+ cultists in attendance and Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin just couldn’t help themselves as backup QB Beau Pribula took the snap and managed to sneak his way into the end zone for a touchdown.

The play plus the extra point yielded a final score of 38-15.

Classless: Penn State scores with 6 seconds left to cover & cash the over

So why was this relevant?

Well, the spread on the game was Penn State -20.5 over West Virginia and that touchdown sealed it for anyone who was on the Nittany Lions.

I couldn’t even roll out the always classic “Good Teams Win, Great Teams Cover” line because of it, while everyone who bet Penn State was thrilled with a pitiful 20.5 point backdoor cover while the over/under line of 52 points was also hit at 53.

This is what happens when a “good luck” squirrel is seen on the field during the game.

Personally, I thought this was a sign for WVU to stay competitive last night, but unfortunately, it seemed to favor the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Game Note: I will say that WVU managed to keep this game interesting for longer than it should have been. The running game looked strong for the Mountaineers, however they have a quarterback problem with Garrett Greene under center and not being able to throw the football.

Also, for the Penn State cult, you better be concerned about that defense. I know you’re all screaming “National Championship” right now but all I can envision is yet another 9-3 season with losses to Ohio State and Michigan so maybe pump the brakes until conference play.

WVU remains in Big 12 Purgatory

As for my Mountaineers, the downfall of every sports program continues. I cannot stand Neal Brown and what has happened to Mountaineer Football over the past decade. Bring me back to the golden age of Morgantown with Pat White and Steve Slaton running all over the NCAA.

  1. dude, PSU had the first game-they-ever-played-in D in the game or WV would not have gotten their second TD. also the QB that scored the TD you are crying about was literally in his first game ever, he has a right to want a score. PSU is the only team who would have scored in that situation? sir, you are delusional. sorry you lost money on the game. betting on football is a loser’s game.

    1. Bad look from every single angle. Franklin did that to avoid criticism that they struggled (and they did for most of the game) against a really bad wvu team. Period

  2. Tell me how you tell your 2nd string guys to NOT score when they’re in for mop duty. Those guys don’t get alot of playing time and they need the experience too. And considering some of the scores on that day, that was mild. Check out the Oklahoma score for example!
