Series Preview: Phillies host the Braves for 4-games at Citizens Bank Park, starting with a day/night doubleheader

Fresh off losing 2 of 3 to the Miami Marlins over the weekend, the Philadelphia Phillies will welcome the Atlanta Braves to Citizens Bank Park for a 4-game series, starting things off with a Monday day/night doubleheader.Â
Phillies lose 2 of 3 to the Marlins
Ranger Suarez was on the mound yesterday for the Phillies and was phenomenal, throwing 6.1 innings, allowing just two hits and three earned runs while striking out 10.
Suarez tossed 6.1 no-hit innings before running out of gas in the eight inning, allowing the Marlins to tie the game 3-3. Seranthony Dominguez then coughed up a 2-run home run to Bryan De La Cruz and just like that, the Phillies were dealt a series loss at home over the weekend. Â

The Hunt for Red October
Even with losing 2 of 3 to the Fish, the Phillies hold a two-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the top NL Wild Card spot. The Phillies hold a four game lead over the D-Backs in third, with the Marlins, Giants, and Reds all fighting for a ticket to the postseason.

Charlie Morton was dominant in the month of August, posting a 1.91 ERA over 28.2 innings, but wasn’t as sharp in his first start of September. Morton coughed up two runs on six hits in just over four innings of work in a Braves’ loss to the Dodgers last week.
As for Taijuan Walker, he’s stacking up wins for the Phillies but in reality, he’s been pretty lousy on the mound. Over his last four starts, Walker has allowed three or four runs. In his last outing, he allowed four runs over five innings against the Padres.Â
At the plate, no one in Major League Baseball is hotter than Trea Turner. The Phillies’ shortstop is batting .380 with 14 home runs and 35 RBI over his last 30 games and continues an absolutely insane resurgence since fans rose to their feet in support of Turner back on August 2nd.
The same goes for Kyle Schwarber, who’s batting .283 with 16 home runs and 29 RBI over his past 30 games.Â

We’ll see how things shake out against the Braves this week. Atlanta is a very good baseball team and the Phillies have to play them seven times over their next 10 games while fighting to maintain their lead in the NL Wild Card race. A good test for sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if things go haywire over the next week.
Manage those emotions and let’s hope the Phillies handle business.
