Patriot: Taryn Hatcher is donating all of her Phillies gear to PSPCA

Taryn Hatcher is doing what true patriots do. She has a closet full of Phillies gear she’s collected over her years of covering the team, knew she’d never wear all of it, and decided to turn it into money for dogs and cats.

That is America, baby.

Hatcher is hosting a Gear for Good event Thursday at Scamps on Arch Street, where fans can donate to the Pennsylvania SPCA and pick through gear she collected during her years covering the Phillies. We’re talking game-worn Phillies stuff, promo gear, discontinued items, and even some non-Phillies pieces she was gifted along the way.

A lesser person would have tossed it all on eBay and charged some poor father of three $85 for a powder blue cutter top.

Not Taryn Hatcher.

She chose the righteous path.

Taryn Hatcher Is For The People

>> Shop Phillies Gear Here

The best part is that this is simple. Fans show proof of a donation, then they get to pick out gear. Some items will have minimum donation amounts, but the whole point is to make it affordable and get the stuff into the hands of people who will actually wear it.

That’s the kind of thing that makes sense in Philly.

Hatcher had boxes of team-issued and gifted gear sitting around after years on Phillies broadcasts. Instead of letting it rot in a closet, she figured out a way to help fans, help animals, and clear out some space at the same time.

Efficient. Charitable. Patriotic.

You could put that on a campaign sign.

And the PSPCA part is not random, either. Hatcher has two dogs, including Sergio, who came from the PSPCA as a medically challenged puppy. So this is personal. She already supports the organization, and now she is using Phillies gear to get more people involved.

Again, patriot.

This Is The Kind Of Philly Sports Story We Need

Hatcher also made it clear she is not doing this because the Phillies stink right now. She said she would have donated the gear either way, which is important because some people apparently think giving away clothes is some kind of protest against a 9-19 baseball team.

It is not that deep.

The woman has hundreds of pieces of gear. No one needs that many Phillies quarter-zips unless they are opening a clubhouse gift shop in their basement.

Any leftover items will go to a women’s shelter in Philadelphia, which makes the whole thing even better. Fans get gear. The PSPCA gets donations. Leftovers help more people. Hatcher clears out her closet.

That is a clean win.

So yes, Taryn Hatcher is a patriot. Not in the fake Twitter bio way. In the real way. She found a way to turn free Phillies merch into something useful for fans, dogs, cats, and people who could use the help.

God bless America.

God bless dogs.

And god bless Taryn Hatcher.

  1. Who-ever was in charge of her contract fumbled. Reporters come and go but solid good people in today’s age, rarely come by.
