Bryce Harper was ejected by home plate umpire Alex Tosi after he struck out swinging in the top of the third inning during last night’s 5-4 Phillies win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Harper wasn’t happy with a high fastball that was definitely out of the zone earlier in the at-bat, which Tosi called a strike. Once he struck out, he tossed his bat towards the Phillies’ dugout and did the same with his helmet.
Bryce Harper Called Strike – Pitch 4

Tosi didn’t like Harper tossing his equipment back towards the Phillies dugout.
He couldn’t possibly deal with the fact that Harper was upset with his horrible called-strike earlier in the at-bat and “showing him up” on a game that was streamed exclusively on AppleTV+. Tosi immediately tossed Bryce, which resulted in Harper getting his money’s worth before exiting the game.
Bryce Harper Ejected by Home Plate Umpire Alex Tosi
Note: If you don’t think this was just the result of a thinned skinned umpire who had his feelings hurt in by Bryce Harper, the next 10 of 11 bad calls went against the Phillies. That’s all the proof you need from Alex Tosi.
The Phillies were leading 4-0 at the time. Harper drove in a run in the first with a fielder’s-choice grounder. Alec Bohm moved from third base to play first. Edmundo Sosa entered the game to play third.
Obviously, there’s a case to be made that Bryce shouldn’t even risk putting himself in a situation like this but at the same time, there’s literally no chance that he deserved to be ejected.
Phillies Hunt for Red October
Phillies earned win No. 80 in the season last night and hold a 2.5 game lead over the Chicago Cubs for the top spot in the NL Wild Card race.

The Phillies will send Ranger Suarez (2-6, 3.93 ERA) to the mound tonight at 7:15PM against Miles Mikolas (7-11, 4.75 ERA).
15 Games Remaining: at STL (2), at ATL (3), vs. NYM (4), vs. PIT (3), at NYM (3)
Can’t wait for the computer to call balls and strike to the UMPIRES head set…hopefully next season! Let’s get it right!!!
Harper needs to learn to not throw his bat and helmet around. Then he won’t get tossed.
