Bad Beat: Thoughts and Prayers for anyone who had the San Francisco 49ers -7.5 over the Los Angeles Rams yesterday

Thoughts and prayers to anyone who had the San Francisco 49ers -7.5 over the Los Angeles Rams yesterday afternoon.
The 49ers were up 27-20 with just under three minutes left to play and sent kicker Jake Moody out to knock down a 26-yard field goal to extend their lead to 30-20.
The Rams took over with roughly one minute and 30 seconds left on the clock and Matt Stafford ultimately completed a 17-yard pass down to the 49ers’ 20-yard line with just four seconds left on the clock. The Rams could have just ran one final play to throw the ball into the end zone or hell, just ran the ball or kneeled it with the game clearly out of reach.
Instead, Sean McVay decided to kick a field goal. Sometimes, the most meaningless players yield the worst results for sports bettors across America. Brett Maher drilled the field goal, marking the last play of the game and a final score of 30-23.
Just a monumental “bad beat” for anyone who had money on the game. Even if you had the 49ers’ -7 you were left with a push instead of what easily could have been a win. If you had them -7.5, well, that must have felt like getting ran over by a freight truck.
Los Angeles Rams kick field goal down 10 points to cover vs 49ers
Of course, a ton of sports bettors were LIVID on social media with the final result of the game. Makes sense, there’s nothing worse than losing a bet in the final seconds of a game. I mean seriously. Rams are down 10 points with three seconds left on the clock and they attempt a field goal?
Trust me, I suffered a massive loss thanks to Penn State scoring a touchdown and then extra-point to lose a WVU cover and under bet in Week 1 of College Football.
For the non-sports bettors on social media (smart) they immediately said that the Rams did the right thing by taking whatever points they could get against their division rival San Francisco 49ers citing the NFL’s tiebreaker rules for Wild Card teams looking to earn a spot in the playoffs.
Points Matter (Kind of): Tiebreaker Rules for NFL Wild Card teams
- Head-to-head, if applicable.
- Best win percentage in games played within the conference.
- Best win percentage in common games, minimum of four.
- Strength of victory.
- Strength of schedule.
- Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
- Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
- Best net points in conference games.
- Best net points in all games.
- Best net touchdowns in all games.
- Coin toss.
Clearly, those people should never get an invite to any NFL Sunday watch party. Zero fun.
Forget the stupid tiebreaker rules. Anyone bringing the “points” argument up for a tiebreaker or really ANYTHING related to the “NFL Rulebook” simply doesn’t gamble and has no idea what it’s like to go down like this on a parlay or straight bet.

It’s pretty fascinating that somehow, the oddsmakers in their ivory towers out in Las Vegas have these games coming down to the final play week in and week out.
Just a bad beat. Plain and simple.
