Failures of Philly: We missed our Tampa flight in a brutal twist of fate

I don’t know where to start, so I’ll just go from the beginning. Our friends at Phans of Philly are sending us down to Tampa for the Eagles road trip. They set it all up beautifully for us, but we failed them. After a delightful airport martini, we sauntered up to our gate, ready to board. That’s when it all came crashing down.

If you’re not much of a reader, we have the full breakdown from our fearless leader on what I’ve dubbed the Tampa Bay Tragedy:

I’m not going to lie. We biffed this one. Hard.

Phans of Philly made it so damn easy for us, and we still managed to get bumped from the flight. We weren’t pleased with the outcome and still aren’t, but at least we know we’ll be able to get down to Florida today, albeit under a set of underwhelming circumstances.

If Eagles fans didn’t travel so well, I’m sure the 10:49 AM flight they rebooked us on would have been an easy option. But, since we have the best fans in the NFL, every flight to Tampa today was booked solid, with multiple standby tickets on the list ahead of us.

It’s not great odds for a group of four to get on the same flight.

So, as our Editor-in-Chief, Drew Smith, stated in the video, we’re flying into West Palm Beach, renting a car, and driving a few hours to Clearwater Beach.

Now, bear in mind I know next to nothing about Florida. So when I heard we were flying into West Palm Beach, I figured it’d be a quick drive since Tampa is on the western coast of Florida.

How wrong I was. Apparently, words have no meaning anymore. This is going to be fucking brutal.

drive from PBI to Tampa

Is it because we crave adversity? Possibly. Is it because we’re total morons with no concept of time or responsibility? Absolutely.

In the end, all that matters is we’ll be there for happy hour on Sunday and the Eagles game on Monday. What happens between now and then is just a part of the journey.

Wish us luck. And buy a T-shirt. Every penny helps.
