Report: Eagles sign veteran CB with slot experience

CB James Bradberry has filled in nicely in the slot since Avonte Maddox went down with a pectoral injury.

However, nickel isn’t Bradberry’s natural position, and it felt like the Eagles had to make a move sooner rather than later.

Philadelphia did just that on Tuesday, signing free agent CB Bradley Roby following a workout. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz was first on the news.

Schultz reported that Roby had interest from several suitors but wanted to help the Eagles bring home its second Super Bowl title.

Roby, 31, spent the last two years in New Orleans and has extensive experience in the slot. Of his 628 total snaps played last season, 306 came from the nickel position.

The nine-year veteran allowed a career-best 79.4 passer rating when targeted in 2022, giving up just 34 receptions for 409 yards and one touchdown. Roby’s addition likely means Philadelphia wasn’t enamored by the play of Josh Jobe, who played opposite Darius Slay when Bradberry moved inside.

In a corresponding move, the Eagles have released LB Kyron Johnson from the practice squad.

Roby has recorded 370 tackles, 11 INTs (3 for TDs), 85 passes defended, and 8 forced fumbles in his career.
