Scary Hours: Arizona Diamondbacks pumping in crowd noise during batting practice to prep for CBP
The Arizona Diamondbacks are already scared of playing in Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies’ NLCS opponent has been pumping crowd noise into their batting practices ahead of Game 1.
Sadly for the Diamondbacks, this is only going to make things worse:
The Arizona Diamondbacks are trying to replicate what Citizens Bank Park will be like in the NLCS with crowd noise loudly piped in during their batting practice. The tape exists from the 2020 Covid season.

I’ve heard of NFL teams practicing with crowd noise blaring before they face the Eagles or Chiefs. But I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a baseball team do this.
One thing that makes this a futile effort is that, while they are playing noise from a crowd, it’s not a Philly crowd. There’s no personal insults, no middle fingers, and no sense of rabidity in those tapes.
For sake of comparison, they’re taking an ACT practice test for the SAT. There might be some overlap in the subject matter, but you’re in for a rude awakening on game day.
This is genuinely hurting the Diamondbacks’ chances of success. They’re going to come into Philly thinking, “Alright, we’re prepared. It might be a little different but we’re ready for this.”
Then, when they step out onto the field, they’ll realize they were never going to be ready. It’s closer to entering a bloodthirsty Roman coliseum than a ballpark.
Welcome to the jungle. Best of luck.
