Eagles Buzz: Howie Roseman has his eyes on Pro Bowl slot corner as NFL trade deadline approaches

After trading for Titans safety Kevin Byard on Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly still looking to add talent to their defensive secondary.

We don’t know exactly where this rumor spawned from, or if there’s any validity to it, to be frank. But rumor has it that Howie Roseman “really likes” Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl slot corner Kenny Moore II and would love to add him to the Eagles ahead of the NFL trade deadline.

Kenny Moore II to the Eagles?

It’s still unclear whether or not Moore will be on the trade block. Indy is currently 3-4 and while it seemed like they had a chance at postseason contention with Anthony Richardson at quarterback, his season ending injury likely puts any playoff hope to rest. Which means the Colts may be more willing to stock up on draft capital and be sellers at this year’s deadline.

Moore is one of the best nickel corners in football and has been for the past few years. Since 2018, Moore leads all slot corners in interceptions with 12, three more than any other player from that position during that time. His best season came in 2021, where he racked up four interceptions and 102 combined tackles, earning a Pro Bowl nod in the process.

The Colts CB is in the final year of his four-year, $33M contract, making Moore a prime trade candidate for Indianapolis. At 28 years old, he still has a lot of good football ahead of him, but in the Colts current situation, it might not make sense to pay a slot corner premium money when there are so many other positions that need to be addressed.

That’s where Howie and the Eagles come in.

Moore’s fit in Philly is pretty obvious. With Avonte Maddox on IR and Bradley Roby dealing with injuries as well, the team needs stability in the nickel. Not only will Moore provide that, he’ll add some much needed playmaking ability to the position and give the Eagles another reliable veteran presence in their secondary.

Secondary is the biggest weakness on the team. Adding Byard should certainly help – adding someone like Kenny Moore would put them over the top.
