End of an Era: Phillies decline Scott Kingery’s club option, still have one year of team control
The Philadelphia Phillies announced yesterday that they would be declining Scott Kingery’s team option for the 2024 season.
Phillies decline Scott Kingery Club Option for the 2024 season
Kingery earned $8.25 million last season with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He was set to make $13 million in 2024 if the Phillies exercised their team option.
Instead, Kingery will get a $1 million buyout from the Phillies, while still remaining with the organization in 2024 now that his contract reverts to the seven-year deal he signed after getting drafted in 2015.
Big pay cut for Scott Jetpax but all things considered, there’s still hope for the return of Jetpax SZN.
Kingery slashed .244/.325/.400 with 13 home runs, 47 RBI, 68 runs scored, and 24 stolen bases over 117 games last season in Triple A Lehigh Valley.
Listen, I know the vibes are way down on Scott Kingery and have been for quite some time. However, you simply cannot look me in the face and say that Rodolfo Castro is a better option on the 40-man roster.
Stay the course. The dream of Jetpax SZN survives for at least another year in Philadelphia.
