Phillies axe red jersey to make room for Nike City Connect uniforms in 2024
The Philadelphia Phillies will not wear their red jerseys in 2024.
Heading into next season the Phillies are one of the 16 teams in Major League Baseball that do not have a Nike City Connect alternate uniform.
That will change in 2024 and Nike’s “4+1” rule which requires MLB teams to have a total of four uniforms and a City Connect uniform means that one of the Phillies current uniforms had to be axed from the rotation.

Now we have our answer.
The all red jerseys have officially gotten the axe, according to Tim Kelly over at Phillies Nation. Taking it a step further, it doesn’t look like the red jerseys will be returning to Spring Training games either.
This time, though, it sounds like the red jerseys are being hung up altogether. Not only will they not be back as a regular season alternate in 2024, but apparently when Nike says they are only making five uniforms for you, that includes Spring Training too. Nike didn’t make the popular green St. Patrick’s Day uniforms for the Phillies last March, and they will not make the red tops just for Spring Training either.
So now we know what jersey got the axe, but what will the Nike City Connect uniform look like? Honestly, I’m not sure but if the Phillies think taking the “flag route” and making them powder blue and yellow, I’m not sure I’ll be able to stomach it.
Avoid Philadelphia Flag Colors
After seeing the Eagles wear the Philly flag colors, I’ve had enough and I’m more than ready to move on without them. The flag desperately needs an update regardless and floating those colors out there yet again seems lazy and unoriginal.
Is it possible that Nike brings back a red jersey with City Connect?
That’d be pretty fucking awesome, but I’m still going to stick with my initial plan and demand that we get an ALL ROYAL uniform combination next season.

- Cream/Parchment
- Powder Blue
- Gray Road Jerseys
