Loser Monday: Quick thoughts from the San Francisco 49ers’ demolition of the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday at The Linc

Happy Loser Monday, Philadelphia Eagles fans. It feels great to get your ass kicked every once in a while, right?…..RIGHT?

Okay maybe not but thankfully yesterday’s 42-19 ass kicking at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers came in Week 13 of the regular season and not the playoffs.

Someone should definitely remind the NFL that’s the case and the “revenge game” really means nothing until the 49ers do it in the playoffs. But hey, whatever helps San Francisco sleep at night…I guess.

Kill Me.

While yesterday definitely sucked, there’s plenty of football left to be played and the Philadelphia Eagles still sit atop of the NFC Conference with a 10-2 record.

Still, that doesn’t really help mask the pain of what happened yesterday against the 49ers.

San Francisco has been talking shit ever since we dog walked them in the NFC Championship Game last year and came into our house and embarrassed the Philadelphia Eagles in their “revenge game”.

I’m fine in admitting that.

The 49ers backed up every word that was said over the past 10 months and stuck it to the Eagles in the worst way imaginable.

So yes, it was a bad loss and there’s a ton of chatter that the Philadelphia Eagles were “exposed” yesterday which I’m not going to go that far but there’s definitely reason for concern, especially when you lose a game in that fashion to the only team that stands in your way from making another Super Bowl run.

At 10-1 on the season, there was plenty of reason to believe that the Eagles should have been undefeated heading into yesterday’s premier matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

The only game they lost up until that point was against the Jets and I think all Eagles fans are in agreement that New York didn’t really win that game but rather Philly beat themselves.

Yesterday was different.

I am definitely not here to make any type of excuses for the way the Philadelphia Eagles played yesterday. That shit was embarrassing and they looked completely gassed on both sides of the football.

I do think however, that playing three games over the past two weeks while the San Francisco 49ers haven’t played since Thanksgiving (10 days rest) was pretty significant.

The Eagles’ defense was gassed in the second half and the 49ers took advantage by scoring SIX STRAIGHT TOUCHDOWNS after the Eagles’ managed to convert to red zone appearances with just field goals while sending Brock Purdy running for his line to start the game.

Just brutal. After two straight defensive stops, the 49ers responded by going 7-for-8 on third down which really was 8-for-8 because on the one the Eagles managed to stop, San Francisco converted on fourth down.

Blame EVERYONE.

Blame Jalen Hurts not using his legs while he had what looked like ALL DAY to throw the football in the first half. Blame the referees who missed a few big calls that changed the direction of the game (Josh Sweat offsides), blame Brian Johnson for failing yet again to call plays and keep pace with the “flow of the game”.

Blame EVERYONE. Just make sure you save the majority of that blame for Sean Desai’s defense. Sure, the lack of personnel to properly matchup against the 49ers was evident, however the Eagles would have struggled to win any games with the way they were tackling out there yesterday.

Nicholas Morrow? See you in the XFL bud.

No shot the Eagles let Morrow step foot onto a football field after that disaster yesterday. I can’t count how many times you missed a coverage or tackle over the field yesterday. It was embarrassing to watch.

This play was BRUTAL.

Don’t think I forgot about Nick Sirianni leaving his starters, including Jalen Hurts after clearing concussion protocol in the game until the very end. I mean hell, D’Andre Swift almost died on the football field last night. It was tough to watch.

At the end of the day, the Eagles are a team that have relied on resiliency while completely lacking any type of consistency on both sides of the football. Yesterday they had neither and because of that, getting dog walked in your own house by the San Francisco 49ers was the result.

You had to think that one of these games, that type of play was bound to bite them in the ass and obviously, the 49ers were able to get their “revenge” yesterday in the worst way possible.

Up Next for the Philadelphia Eagles

But hey, like I said to start this post. Sometimes it’s good to get smacked in the face…maybe.

We’ll see what type of team the Philadelphia Eagles really are next weekend when they have to bounce back quickly against their NFC East rivals in the Dallas Cowboys.
