Flyers recall Lehigh Valley Phantoms leading scorer Olle Lycksell for 3-game road trip
With a three-game road trip next on the slate for the Philadelphia Flyers, Olle Lycksell has been recalled from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
Flyers announce Noah Cates has been placed on Injured Reserve
Flyers 3 Game Roadtrip:
- Thursday: @ ARI
- Saturday: @ COL
- Tuesday: @ NSH
Lycksell, 24, is currently leading the Phantoms in points with 12G-7A-19P in 21 games. He appeared in 8 games for the Flyers last season and only had an assist to show.
It’ll be interesting to see if Lycksell gets a chance to see some action in these three games considering how well the current lineup has been playing for the Flyers and how well Lycksell has been playing for the Phantoms. Add in that the Phantoms play on Friday and Saturday and I don’t think it’s unfair to ask the question “Is he playing or did we just take him away from two games to go on a road trip?”
If that’s the plan, why not just call up a vet like Laczynski, Marody, or even Gardner (who lasted longer at TC than any of us would’ve guessed)?
I could see calling Lycksell up if the Phantoms didn’t play for 4-5 days and you want to reward the good play with the call-up and the opportunity to form some chemistry with the team. But like I said, the Phantoms play on Friday and Saturday.
This isn’t me complaining that they’re rewarding solid play like they (Briere) said they would, I’m just raising the question. If this was Tuomaala, 20, being called up to sit and eat popcorn when he could be playing top 6 minutes, it’d raised a few more hairs on my eyebrow.

BUT…It’s Not.
And that’s not calling Lycksell a bust or anything. He is still a 24-year-old kid who played in the SHL for 4-5 years and just came over to play AHL/NHL hockey last season. He’s just now getting comfortable with NA and the game here, the same as what Emil Andrae, 21, is doing right now.
Lycksell was currently playing LW with the Phantoms on a line with Samu Tuomaala and Tanner Laczynski and is listed as an RW on CapFriendly.
Current Lines:
- 71-14-11
- 74-48-10
- 86-21-89
- 44-25-19
We’ll see if John Tortorella goes with the same lineup that beat the Pittsburgh Penguins back-to-back or if he’ll find a way to get Lycksell in there.
